This article is the second of a series of three papers on the evolutionary biology of the shrews (Insectivora, Soricidae). The first paper dealt with the general aspects of the subject: anatomy, evolution and biogeography of the Soricidae. In this second part, four of the five subfamilies are presented, viz. the extinct Crocidosoricinae, Allosoricinae, and Limnoecinae, and the extant subfamily Crocidurinae.
