Taphonomy, the study of the proces of fossilization, is a growing field of interest. This article deals with the various aspects of taphonomy and their importance for the paleontology. This text is a summary of the lecture given for the W.P.Z. on the 15th of October 1994 in the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden.
