The Netherlands are very rich in fossils of Pleistocene mammals. These fossils form the private and museum collections. However, due to different factors such as structure of the bone and external factors like the conditions in the storage places, the fossil bones are exposed to degradation. This phenomenon creates a serious problem for conservation. The present article describes the problems regarding Pleistocene bones in the storage places and reviews the various techniques that are applied to protect these fossils.
