Fossiele zoogdierbotten uit Liessel

A number of fossil mammal bones and bone fragments from a sandpit in Liessel (NB) are described. Included are remains of deer, rhinoceros and a proboscidean, extracted from sediments in the same locality where previously some molars of the mastodonts Anancus arvernensis and Mammut borsoni have been found. All fossils probably are of a Late Pliocene age. By comparing the specimens with well known material from museums and data from the literature, an attempt is made to assign the fossils to mammalian taxa known from other Villafranchian sites in western Europe.
