An unknown and unique fossil vertebra of a relatively large land mammal dated to the Early Pleistocene is reported from the bottom of the North Sea. The article describes the quest into the origin of this fossil axis and results in the assumption that it might have belonged to Caprovis savinii, a rare antelope of which only the horn cores are known.
