In 1962 Microthamnion strictissimum Rabenhorst was found twice in the Netherlands, whereas it had not been recorded before from that country. It was collected in a shallow oligotrophic pool (Leersumse Veld, Eerste Plas, prov. Utrecht) as well as in an also shallow but eutrophic one (Herenvennen, Bergen, prov. Limburg).
