Up to the present Pleuridium subulatum (Hedw.) Rab. sensu Lindb. has been considered a rare species in the Netherlands, whereas P. acuminatum was said to be rather common. The author has re-examined all available Dutch specimens and has reached the conclusion that both species are rather common, P. subulatum being a little more common and distinctly more widespread than P. acuminatum. A list of specimens is given together with a distribution map, and notes concerning nomenclatural problems, differential characters, ecology and periodicity. In the Netherlands, ripe spores of P. acuminatum have been collected between March and September, those of P. subulatum between April and July.
