The sterile hybrid Carex otrubae Podp. X Carex paniculata L., new for the Netherlands, was discovered in five localities along the IJsselmeer in the province of Friesland (fig. 1). Together with the parents it grows there abundantly on sandy and wet forelands, in an unstable vegetation rich in species of the Agropyro-Rumicion crispi and the Filipendulion. Compared with the parents, the hybrid has intermediate characters as is shown in the figures 2 and 3.
