The author discusses the Rubus-flora around Arnhem and its phytogeographical significance. Both the genus Rubus and the phytogeography are topics of the botanical interest of Prof. Van Soest, in whose honour this special issue of Gorteria is made. The environment of the town of Arnhem is one of the areas thoroughly studied bij Van Soest.
