The author writes of the merit of Van Soest, who recognized in 1952 Hippophaë rhamnoides L. subsp. fluviatilis. This subspecies from countries around the Alps and the Pyrenees, is often sold in the Netherlands for horticultural purposes and dies in gardens in the coastal areas.
