Allium paradoxum (Bieb.) G. Don aan de binnenduinrand inburgerend

Allium paradoxum, a native of S.W. Asia and naturalized for over a century in Britain, Germany and Czechoslovakia, has also established itself at some localities in the Netherlands. In some woodlets on the inner side of the dunes near Heemstede and Bloemendaal (prov. of Noord-Holland) it is locally abundant, being known from these findspots since c. 1918 and 1957 respectively. Moreover, the species was recorded from similar localities near Wassenaar and Oostvoorne (prov. of Zuid-Holland), but on the former spot it has vanished possibly due to human activity and on the latter it has not spread very much thusfar. It is the author’s opinion that A. paradoxum should be considered a member of the Dutch flora because of its naturalizing on at least two find-spots and because of its well-defined habitat.
