Euphorbia serrulata, though not recorded in the Netherlands after 1951, was refound in 1979 near Steenderen in the IJssel valley in Gelderland at three localities lying near together. Its habitat can be described as rather open, somewhat ruderal, preferably moist, sometimes shady on river clay. E. serrulata is accompanied by plants of grassy, more or less moist, disturbed habitats and plants of wood margins. E. platyphyllos, which is also a rare species in the Netherlands, was recorded in 1979 in Zeeuwsch- Vlaanderen. This species appears to occur in weed vegetation on clay soils (Linarietum spuriae).
