Some 200 specimens of Ophrys apifera were found in a moist, formerly saline but now desalinated terrain along one of the new dykes connecting the former islands in the province of Zeeland. The lasting occurrence of the orchid is threatened by mice and by Salix and Hippophaë scrub overgrowing the locality.
