Between 1990 and 1996 no less than 6 hitherto extinct species have been newly recorded within the Netherlands, whereas 16 endangered species (cat. 1) and 1 potentially vulnerable species (cat. 4) have become extinct. As a thorough revision of the Red Data List will not be published before the end of 1997, it was decided to publish the changes in the List of extinct species only.
