Elatine hydropiper has been discovered as a pioneer species in three adjacent shallow pools in the province of Friesland. All known releves from the Netherlands are presented in table 1, showing a rather wide variation in accompanying species. It is not clear why the species is so rare in the Netherlands. A collection with 5 distinctly pedicellate flowers proved to belong to E. hydropiper as well.
