As a result of the reorganisation of the biological collections in the ‘Zeeuws Biologisch Museum’ at Oostkapelle, Province of Zealand, two small herbaria were saved from obscurity. One of them was made by Christiaan Romijn (1910–1988), who collected mainly on the Zealand island of Walcheren. Romijn’s herbarium contains a specimen of Epipactis atrorubens (Hoffm.) Besser, which was collected in the dunes near Domburg, Walcheren, in August 1927. This specimen provides supporting evidence for the correctness of disputable records of E. atrorubens on Walcheren given by the botanists Walraven and Lako in the late 19th century. Later (and earlier) records of the occurrence of the species on Walcheren are not known.
