In this paper, the name Carex ×ploegii Jac.Koopman is proposed for the hybrid between C. otrubae Podp. and C. paniculata L. This hybrid was first described by Sylvén1 from Sweden, but he did not give it a name. Bakker, Van der Ploeg and Rudolphy2 found the hybrid in 1968 on the Makkumer Noordwaard (Province of Friesland), the first record of this hybrid for the Netherlands. The name Carex ×ploegii is in honour of the late D.T.E. van der Ploeg (1919–2006), a Frisian botanist, who made a special study of Carices and Carex-hybrids.
