New remarks about the horns of the woolly rhinoceros Coelodonta antiquitatis - Over twenty horns of the woolly rhinoceros have been investigated. The morphological differences with the horns of living species are described. The lateral flattening of the horns of the woolly rhinoceros is the result of postmortem maceration of the lateral parts of the horns. The characteristic transverse ridges are interpreted as being year-rings, caused by seasonal fluctuations in the growth of the horns. Furthermore the sexual dimorphism and the functional morphology of the horns are discussed
