Phaeobotrys solitaria Ettl was found at several localities in The Netherlands; details of its morphology, including ultrastructure, are presented. Culturing experiments revealed its life cycle to contain Ochrumonas-like: zoids. It is therefore removed from the subclass Acontochrysophycidae to the Heterochrysophycidae, order Ochromonadales.
