The spider fauna of a former peatbog area, now fenland, was studied in a year-round inventory during the years 1965-1967. A total number of 83 species was collected, 19 of which were new for the province of Noord-Holland. A number of different sampling techniques were used, such as pitfalls, extraction samples, quantitave hand collecting and sweeping. Four habitat types were distinguished and compared, viz. open grassland, open marshland, blackberry brushwood, and a birch plot with a groundcover of Sphagnum. The effectiveness of the sampling techniques used is discussed.
