For the European project “Spider of the Year 2011” Agelena labyrinthica (Clercl, 1757), the Labyrinth Spider had been selected. The public was made aware of the project by means of a press release which led to short notes in journals and newspapers as well as in a nature program on the radio. All data sent in for the project are summarized and mapped. Other sources were used as well, such as the collection of the Natural History Museum Naturalis in Leiden and records sent by many people to a popular site for recording species in the Netherlands. The species seems to be common in most of the Netherlands but rare in the northern provinces.
