In this article some spider observations from nature reserve Het Egelmeer close to the town of Veenendaal are presented. No intensive spider inventory was performed, but during two field excursions in 2009 several conspicuous spider species were noted or collected for identification. This has lead to a list of 42 spider species for the area. Surprisingly, five of these were previously unrecorded for the province of Utrecht: Dipoena melanogaster, Metellina mengei, Philodromus histrio, Pirata latitans and Tetragnatha montana. These are common species in the Netherlands, thereby illustrating our poor knowledge of the spider fauna of this province.
