This paper deals with the distribution and numbers of the breeding population of the Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) in the Netherlands, especially during 1975 and 1976. The breeding population was estimated on 275-350 pairs in 1975 and on 90-140 pairs in 1976. The decline in 1976 (± 63%) is due to the frostperiod in breeding-distribution from 1900 up to 1962. Figure 2 shows the breeding-distribution for the years 1973-1976. In figure 3 the percentual decrease in 1976 compared with 1975 is illustrated (black is the remaining percentage of the population in 1976). A reconstruction of the breeding population in the Netherlands during 1962—1976 is given in figure 4. P. L. Meininger, Grevelingenstraat 53, Middelburg, R. Kwak, van Spaenstraat 16, Nijmegen en T.
