The history, construction and management of a manmade wall for the Sand Martin are described. In this wall with 400 prefabricated holes 200 pairs were breeding in 1990. The area in front of the wall was used for a small wetlandarea in which Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe and Little Ringed Plover were nesting. In the latter part of the summer this area is a good habitat for migrating waders. This project was realised by the Department of Public Works (Rijkswaterstaat).
