The province of Overijssel covers 3928 km2, of which some 9.4% is afforested. In 1995, raptor surveys of various intensity were carried out in 383 km-squares. Seven raptor species were found breeding, mostly Common Buzzards, Goshawks, Sparrowhawks and Kestrels (Table 1). Evidence of human persecution of raptors was collected in many parts of the province, varying from poisoning to illegal trapping, nest disturbance and shooting.
