An area of >30.000 ha of farmland (woodland area very restricted) in the northern part of the province of Noord-Holland was surveyed in 1995, resulting in 37 territories of Marsh Harrier (3x 4, 2x 5 and 2x 6 eggs/clutch, 5x 1, 1x 2, 6x 3 and 2x 4 young/nest), 6 territories of Goshawk (1x 2, 2x 3 and 2x 4 eggs/clutch, 1x 1, 2x 2 and 1x 3 young/nest), 3 territories of Sparrowhawk (the single nest failed), 9 territories of Common Buzzard (1x 1, 2x 2 and 2x 3 eggs/clutch, 2x 1 and 1x 2 young/nest), 20 territories of Kestrel (1x 3, 2x 4, 6x 5 eggs/clutch, 2x 2, lx 3, 4x 4 and 1x 5 young/nest) and 5 territories of Hobby (1 nest with 3 eggs resulted in 3 fledglings). In the Marsh Harrier, bigamy was found at a site with 5 nests on 150 ha. Prey found during the survey is detailed in Table 1.
