On 26 January 2000, a first-year Common Buzzard was captured in good condition (1080 g, wing length 398 mm). The pupil of its left eye was different from a normal pupil (see drawing). It was perfectly able to see with this eye (tested by scaring from the left). Moulted primaries of this bird were found on 22 May 2000, showing that the bird was able to live with the defect.
