On 24 November 2001, a juvenile female Sparrowhawk captured a Blackbird Turdus merula, with which she disappeared into cover some 250 m away to start plucking. Before reaching cover, she was detected and harassed by 10 Magpies, forcing her to land in a meadow just 10 m short of cover. The Sparrowhawk started hopping and running with the prey towards a willow thicket, meanwhile being pecked at by the Magpies. After reaching cover, she started plucking despite being harassed by Magpies and Carrion Crows; this lasted some 15 minutes after which the commotion slowed down. It was not clear whether the Magpies acted out of aggression, or tried to rob the Sparrowhawk of its prey.
