Observations of hunting Eurasian Sparrowhawks in urban and suburban areas in The Netherlands in the breeding season have become common practice, as exemplified by records from Purmerend, a medium-sized town 10 km north of Amsterdam. This “green,, town with many newly built quarters (from 1968 onwards) and rather dense tree cover is an attractive hunting ground because of high (near-)passerine densities.
