On 16 September 2006, an Osprey was observed catching a big fish in the Oostvaardersplassen in the central Netherlands. This bird was easily outflown by an adult White-tailed Eagle that pursued the Osprey in a fast and powerful flight with closed wing tips (almost like a Lapwing). Upon overhauling the Osprey, the eagle attacked from below, forcing the Osprey to drop its fish; the latter was caught by the eagle in the air (60-80 m above ground level). The eagle landed and was soon accompanied by another adult. Shortly afterwards, the eagle transported (part of) the fish to a juvenile White-tailed Eagle that was sitting nearby.
