Between 1996 and 2008, four Sparrowhawks (three females, one male) were found as victims of collisions against the windows of bus shelters in one of the districts (70 ha) of the city of Breda (southern Netherlands). This particular district had been built in the 1980s, and is landscaped with a variety of shrubs mixed with deciduous trees. In order to prevent collisions, plantings should be spaced in such a way that obstacles can easily be evaded. Also, parks should be made as large as possible, allowing trees and shrubs to reach full maturity. Large windows in bus shelters should be fitted with maps, advertisements or stickers, in order to make them clearly visible.
