In 2007, a female in the Dutch province of Drenthe started a clutch on 16 March (8 days earlier than the next laying in this region), producing 6 eggs of which 4 hatched and fledged. In the same nestbox, a second clutch was started on 28 May, of which 3 eggs fledged. The identity of the pair was not known. 2007 was a rather good vole Microtus arvalis year.
