On 28 February 2011, a – presumably female – juvenile Sparrowhawk was observed fighting a Magpie on land. Although the Magpie managed to escape to a Prunus spinosa bush, the Sparrowhawk attacked again during which both fell into a nearby ditch. The Magpie was held under water, with the Sparrowhawk on top. Using its wings, the Sparrowhawk managed to row towards the shoreline, meanwhile gripping its prey. As the shoreline was too high to lift the prey from the water, the Sparrowhawk eventually discarded its prey (or was disturbed) and disappeared without the – now dead – Magpie.
