Orchis praetermissa (Druce) en Orchis latifolia junialis (m.)

1. The original diagnosis of Orchis praetermissa (Druce) from „The Botanical Exchange Club-Report for 1913” is given, together with a Dutch translation of the somewhat altered diagnosis, published by Dr Druce in „Bot. Exch. Cl. Rep. for 1917.” 2. The characteristics of Orchis praetermissa (Dr) are discussed and compared to those of other orchids. Characteristic are late time of flowering, unspotted leaves, rather broad flat labellum with small prominent middle lobe. A table with measurements of Dutch individuals of Orchis praetermissa is given. 3. The difference in opinion between English botanists is discussed, especially regarding Orchis latifolia (L.). This difference can be explained from the fact that O. latifolia majalis (Kittel) as it occurs in the Western part of the European Continent, is not found in England. 4. The Orchis latifolia in the sense of Dr Stephenson and Col. Godfery, which is flowering late in the season at the same time as O. praetermissa, is according to the description identical with the late-flowering O. latifolia from the moors in Holland and Utrecht. Col. Godfery and Dr Stephenson, to whom I forwarded living specimens from Holland, are of the same opinion. 5. This O. latifolia I named Orchis latifolia junialis to distinguish it from Orchis latifolia majalis (Kittel). A diagnosis of this variety is given. It flowers later than O. incarnata (L.), has ringspots on the leaves and a clear mark of loop-shaped lines on the labellum. 6. Dr Druce did not prove this variety to be a hybrid. On some places in Noord-Holland O. latifolia majalis (K.), Orchis praetermissa (Dr.) and O. latifolia junialis (m.) occur jointly. The latter two give the impression of being just one species. 7. Orchis praetermissa and Orchis latifolia junialis occur in England, France and the Netherlands. 8. A key to identify the Dutch Dactylorchids is given.
