S. arctica has always been a rare and threatened species in the Netherlands. All known historical and more recent observations of S. arctica in The Netherlands are reviewed. In 1996 S. arctica was discovered in the south-eastern part of the province of Limburg. This site, in the Brunssummerheide, is discussed in more detail.
