This issue of Brachytron is special in many ways. First of all, this issue contains the proceedings from a symposium on dragonflies in The Netherlands and North Rhein-Westphalia, held in Kranenburg on the 19th of September 2004. The symposium was organised by Jaap Bouwman (then working at Dutch Butterfly Conservation), Christian Göcking (Arbeitskreis Libellen Nordrhein Westfalen) and Robert Ketelaar (Dutch Society for Dragonfly Studies). The articles published in this issue of Brachytron hold valuable information on the ecology, distribution and conservation of dragonflies in this region. It is the first time that distribution maps of this region are published in Brachytron. Although some of them are not entirely up to date, they show nice distribution patterns, revealing more information on the ecology of the species. Secondly, this is truly an international issue of Brachytron. It is the first issue published by the Dragonfly Society Flanders (Libellenvereniging Vlaanderen) and the Dutch Society for Dragonfly Studies (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Libellenstudie) together. And because of its contents, this issue is also published in cooperation with the Working Group on Dragonflies in North Rhine-Westphalia (Arbeitskreis Libellen Nordrhein Westfalen). We chose English as the language for the articles with Dutch and German summaries.
