Conze K-J. & Bouwman J.H., 2010. Working with the Habitats Directive: two countries, two approaches. Brachytron 12 (1/2): 60-67. The Habitats Directive is getting more and more important in Europe. The Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia implement the Habitat-directive in their own way in local laws. One of the most important parts of the Habitats Directive is the designation of Special Protected Areas. They have to be designated for all species mentioned in Annex II of the Habitats Directive. Both in distribution and in designating Special Protection Areas (SPA) there’s quite a difference between both countries.
