At a parking lot of a shopping-centre in Marsdijk, a newly built-up quarter of Assen, a nest of Goldfinches was found. Some 61 acacia’s, bulbously lopped, are scattered over the parking lot. The nest was in one of them and contained six eggs on July 7. An unknown number of young fledged. Goldfinches are rare breeding birds on the Plateau of Drenthe. Maybe the vicinity of building-plots with plenty of weeds had attracted them. Or was it just the mediterranean look of the acacia's in combination with the increase of C. c. britannica in The Netherlands?
