After Avocets attempted to breed at Nieuw-Buinen (52°57’N, 6°55’E) in 1992 and 1993 (both times not successful), another attempt was made in 1996 with six pairs laying eggs (lx 2, 2x 3 and 3x 4 eggs, not necessarily completed clutches). A single pair raised two young. Five other nests failed during the egg stage, but the reason remained unknown. This site is the only one in Drenthe where Avocets breed.
