During nightly surveys, the calling frequency of male Corncrakes was quantified from 31 May through 5 July 1998 (Fig. 1). Calling frequency was highest between 23.00 and 4.45 hr (summer time), with a registration efficiency of 64-100% between 01.00 and 04.00 hr. Calling was interrupted during adverse weather with strong winds and rainfall.
