De consumptie van zaden van de wilde kardinaalsmuts Euonymus europaeus door overwinterende Zwartkoppen Sylvia atricapilla

Wintering Blackcaps are rarely observed in Drenthe. In the winter of 2006 the species was observed several times in a garden in Assen, foraging on the seeds of Spindle Tree. Blackbirds and Great Tit (once) were also observed foraging on this specific bush. Seeds were taken by the Blackcaps either by sitting on a branch or by hovering (Table 1). Capsules of the bush release their seeds in slow succession, so the Blackcaps were able to use the bush during a large time interval.
