Mislukte broedpoging Wilde Zwaan Cygnus cygnus in 2009

In 2009 the only breeding Whooper Swan in the Netherlands failed to lay eggs and the pair left the nest area at the end of May. It is suggested that habitat destruction in a nearby sandpit, that in previous years was used for raising the young may be the cause for the failed attempt. Both parents and the colour ringed young bom in 2006 behave as sedentary birds.
