Few surveys were carried out this summer, as usual. Regular inspections were received only from the mainland coast of Noord-Holland. Herring Gulls and Lesser Black-backed Gulls were the most numerous species found dead, but only few (if any) were found contaminated with oil. In August, six juvenile Herring Gulls were found entangled in nylon thread (Hondsbossche Zeewering). Pelagic species were found in small numbers only. The odd Fulmar and Gannet were found and nothing was left of the quite considerable crash of Fulmars on our coast earlier this year. Auks were not reported. A juvenile Long-tailed Skua, found on 27th August, is probably an early sign of the influx witnessed in September-October this year. Important information from: Vogelwerkgroep ’De Windbreker’, Petten, Jos Roersma.
