Advice is given on how to act in case of a live stranding of a dolphin or porpoise. One should behave quietly to avoid additional stress, keep the animal out of the sun, and put it in a pool (fresh or salt) with the blowhole free to breath. The Harderwijk Marine Mammal Park should be informed about the stranding to get it there as soon as possible. Details on the (medical) treatment of stranded cetaceans are given in Aquatic Mammals 15(4) 1990.
