A female Eider Somateria mollissima with 3-4 small pulli was observed on 1 June 1991 at the artificial island Neeltje Jans in the Oosterschelde (Zeeland). It later appeared that two clutches had been laid on the island. These are the first breeding cases for the province of Zeeland, although breeding was suspected two years earlier when an egg collected at the island appeared to be of this species.
