The next conference of MEDMARAVIS (the Mediterranean Marine Bird Association) will take place at the island of Chios (Greece), 15-20 September 1992. The theme of next year’s conference is Management of Island and Coastal Ecosystems in the Mediterranean. Specialized workshops and poster sessions will simultaneously deal with ecological research on the Mediterranean marine fauna and more in particular seabirds. This Pan-Mediterranean symposium is organized by MEDMARAVIS in close collaboration with several other ecological societies, such as MEDASSET (Mediterranean Association to Save the Seaturtles), Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, the Aegean University, EUDC (European Union for Dune Conservation and Coastal Management) as well as the Ecological and Environmental Society of Chios. In August 1991, 34 key speakers from 17 different countries already agreed to participate. The themes of the 8 conference sessions are: (1) Importance of existing coastal parks and reserved (2) Known populations and distribution of marine wildlife (3) Management of infralittoral ecosystems (4) Management of beach and dune ecosystems (5) Management of coastal wetlands (6) Ecological monitoring of small islands (7) Plans and policies for major Mediterranean ecosystems (8) Projects for sustainable development
