In a handwritten manuscript in the municipal archive of Alkmaar, the find of a Storm Petrel Hydrobates pelagicus on the beach at Egmond aan Zee, 14 November 1740, is described and illustrated by a painting of the bird. Another Storm Petrel was found at some time during the late 18th century at Sloterdijk, near Amsterdam.
