Ship-based surveys were conducted in all months, on board RVs Pelagia (CJC) towards Helgoland and, Tridens to East Britain and the southern North Sea (CJC, HO, TR, JS, TP). Gannets, auks and Fulmars were abundant off E Britain in Sep (TP, JS). A Storm Petrel and quite a few Gannets, Great Skuas, and Guillemots were seen in the central S North Sea (TP, JS). Gannets were quite numerous north of the Wadden Sea islands in Sep (CJC). High densities of Guillemots were reported on the Dogger Bank in Oct (HO, TR), while the German Bight was boring as usual, with the odd dark phase Fulmar and a single Sooty Shearwater as highlights. The trip on board Tridens in Nov was mainly used for discard experiments. Interesting was the record of a Storm Petrel being killed by 2 Great Skuas, some 30 nautical miles NW of IJmuiden (CJC).
