A new colony of Cormorants was established on Vlieland in 1994 (5 nests) and this colony numbered around 36 nests in 1985. The rapid expansion of Cormorants in The Netherlands has led to an increased use of the coastal zone and the establishment of several colonies near the coast of this formerly typical inland species.
