This paper reports the stranding of a juvenile female Great Shearwater during beached bird surveys near Sexbierum in Friesland in February 2010. Until 2009, there were 17 earlier accepted findings and sightings in The Netherlands. Plumage, moult, sex, age, physical condition, and stomach contents are described and the skin is deposited into the Zoological Museum in Amsterdam. Given the breeding cycle of Great Shearwaters at Tristan da Cunha, winter birds in the West Palearctic region are expected to be non-breeders, most likely juveniles, which is in accordance with Dutch winter records for as far as their age is known.
